Disruptive Mining Tech developed the SHMS Expert Advisor, a custom AI agent purpose-built for the Queensland coal mining industry, designed to make safety and health legislation compliance accessible, practical, and immediate for everyone on site.

The tool was trained across the full body of Queensland coal mining legislation — including the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act, associated Regulations, all Recognised Standards, and Queensland Guidance Notes — enabling it to answer real-world compliance questions with precision and contextual relevance. Whether a Site Senior Executive needs clarity on management structure obligations, or a contractor wants to understand their competency requirements, the advisor delivers authoritative, document-referenced guidance on demand.

DMT built and deployed the agent using Microsoft Copilot Studio, integrating a comprehensive legislative knowledge base while maintaining proprietary enhancements that extend the model's capabilities beyond standard document retrieval. The proof-of-concept was released publicly and free of charge to demonstrate the technology's value to industry and to accelerate knowledge sharing across the sector.

The platform has since evolved into a commercial offering, with DMT now developing customised versions for individual mining operations — incorporating site-specific SHMS documentation so the agent understands not just the legislation, but the client's own safety system.
